What if making a difference was something you could do everyday?
The Hui needed youth participation to help influence the future of Hawaii’s food system, but its broad mission, network of organizations and long list of initiatives made it difficult to communicate a simple reason for young people to get involved.
The Evidence.
Hawaii’s food system is more fragile than it looks:
Hawaii imports 85–90% of its food, leaving the islands vulnerable to disruptions and external dependence.
That dependence threatens more than food security, putting local agriculture, jobs, costs and the health of the land at risk.
COVID-19 exposed that vulnerability as Hawaii struggled to import and distribute adequate food.

The more capable you are, the more valuable your time becomes.
The Insight.
Young people don’t need to be told there’s a problem. They want a way to be part of the solution.
